Sex Up Your Breast Exam

I know you’ve heard the mantra a million times: “Do your breast self exam monthly”. So, I decided that since you’ll have to do your exam approximately 600 times in your life, we thought you might like a little variation in your repertoire. Here are our suggestions on turning the heat up and involving your partner in your breast health.

Keep in mind that you should never use someone else’s judgment for your own when it comes to your breasts – whether they are your partner or your doctor. If you feel something is different or wrong with your body keep pursuing it medically until you feel satisfied. Also, the suggestions below are designed to compliment the steps of your normal breast self exam not to replace them. Therefore, be sure to check out our comprehensive guide to performing your own breast exam in our How To’s section.

Introductions, please…
I know many of you think your partner’s are already quite familiar with your breasts. After all, breast stimulation or getting “Felt Up” is usually considered “First Base”. However, what we’re looking for here is for your partner to develop a new relationship with them. Breast exams don’t have to be considered a scary thing. They are a positive practice to keep your breasts healthy.

Since he’s going to be apart of the team give him the heads up on the history of your breasts. For instance, if you have fibrocystic lumps that you have been told are normal by your doctor, be sure to not only let your partner know about them ahead of time but also take his hand and show him what they feel like. This way he won’t mistake these lumps for others – there is a difference in the way they feel. Another introduction to your breasts might take place at your OB/Gyn’s office. Have your partner go with you. This is usually a truly enlightening experience for most men. If you can have him in the exam room with you, the doc can give him a personal tutorial. An additional bonus is that you can often have the OB/Gyn even show him your cervix during the vaginal part of your exam…but that should be a whole ‘nother month to celebrate (National Love Your Cervix Month?) Anyway…

Set the Stage…
Do make the environment comfortable and friendly. Turn the lights down and light a few candles. Perhaps a little pre-exam make out session will help the both you relax into it. Stand in front of a mirror with your partner behind you. Notice how your breasts look in the light. Have him reach around feel the weight of your breasts and how they hang off of you. Then move to the bed and lay back. Follow the breast exam instructions, but stay in front of the mirror if you can. Be sure to give feedback to each other. See if you can both communicate the sensation each one of you is feeling.

Variety is the spice of life.
Doing your breast exam in the water (under a shower, in a pool or bath) can change the sensation of the hands on the skin and can make it more erotic.
Do your breast exam once with each other’s hands and then again with just your partner’s tongue. See if he feels anything differently, while at the end he can lap up some honey or chocolate syrup, yum.

Paraphernalia to play with…
While you’re both getting your feel on, why not add a few accoutrements to spice it up? aromatic and flavored body oils will make your breast exam more sensual by allowing the both of your fingertips to glide over your skin much more easily.

Finger body paints are also a great way to follow the path of each of your hands.
What’s the best way to really turn up the sensation of touch? Remove the ability to see with a little blindfold play. Then afterwards he can tease and taunt your breasts and nipples with everything from feathers to clamps.

What comes around…
Now that you’ve had the fun of a decadent breast exam, try it on him. Although breast cancer is much more rare in men, that doesn’t mean their breasts and nipples should be ignored – they are just as sensitive! Try all of these suggestions on him.

On Your Own?
Breast tissue changes with arousal. Do a little experiment by completing your breast exam normally and then while you masturbate. Use one hand to stimulate your clitoris and the other to feel the consistency of your breasts. Using a hands-free vibe will allow you to devote even more touch to breasts. Notice the change in the nipple and the tautness of the skin.

It’s suggested that you plan to do your breast exams once a month. Perhaps you and your lover can have a standing date of breast play and who knows what else? It’s always nice to have an excuse to touch and be touched.
